Google Wave Fizzles Out

It’s the era of social networks. The pace at which the virtual world is evolving is staggering and is marked by innovative developments that characterize the social networking panorama. But just as there have been developments, there have been shocking failures too. Because, trust me, the modern day netizens have a definite “taste” and know what they want.

GOOGLE WAVE --- NO MORE

The biggest surprise to have hit the social networking arena in the recent times is the failure of Google Wave. After over a year of struggle, garnering a small but loyal user base, Google has finally decided to give up on its pet project for the simple reason that it did not gather the volume of user adoption that they hoped it would. Further development for the services has been stopped. Google came out clean saying that it would continue to support Wave till the year end. Considering its open source nature its technology and data can be ported over to other services.

Wave always had to be in direct combat with the available number of collaborative platforms, competing with the popular services that they provide. Wave was intended to be a composite collaborative environment on the web incorporating live but saved multi-person chat along with state-of-the-art content sharing and editing services. The reasons for Google Wave’s downfall are being rumored to be its inability to actively compete with entrenched competitors such as IM and collaborative tools; this in spite of having an array of cutting-edge tools like a maverick way of communication on Android and iOS devices.
